Vadodara, commonly known as Baroda, is Gujarat's third largest city. It is the administrative center of the Vadodara District and is situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri River, 141 kilometers from the state capital Gandhinagar. The Lakshmi Vilas Palace, the residence of Baroda State's Maratha royal family, the Gaekwads, of the Gaekwad Dynasty, is located in the city.

Champaner

Champaner was founded by Vanraj Chavda of the Chavda dynasty. Today, it is home of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO-designated world heritage site.Due to its historical and architectural importance, the Jama Masjid constructed by Sultan Begada is another significant attraction. A significant Hindu shrine that attracts pilgrims throughout the year is the Kalika Mata temple on top of Pavagadh Hill.

Dakor

One of the most popular tourist places near Vadodara is the pilgrimage centre of Gujarat, Dakor. Not only because of the prayers, but also because of its architectural elegance, the grand temple of Shree Ranchhodraiji (Lord Krishna) attracts visitors from all over the world.Constructed in 1772 A.D., legend has it that a great devotee of Lord Krishna, Vijayanand Bodana, brought back Lord Krishna’s idol from Dwarika, and established it in Dakor. Dakor has been the home of Shree Ranchhodraiji (Lord Krishna) ever since that day.

Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary

Jambughoda, one of the lesser-known places to visit near Vadodara, is home to a number of flora and fauna. Its main attraction and the main source of water for wildlife are two water reservoirs at Kada and Tagol. Dakor is one of the most popular tourist places near Vadodara, the pilgrimage centre of Gujarat.It is also home to the Indian flying fox, the Indian giant squirrel, wolf, hyena, jackal, and python, amongst many other species.

The impressive Vadodara Museum and Picture Gallery, built in 1894 by the Gaekwads, is located within Sayaji Bagh. Two separate two-storey buildings constructed in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture are the museum and the photo gallery.You will see a comprehensive array of items related to archaeology, geology, natural history, a number of Maharaja Sayajirao III's personal collection objects, and the 109 Mughal-era miniature paintings, a Persian version of the Mahabharata specially commissioned by Mughal Emperor Akbar.
