About Mathura Tourism

Mathura is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and the administrative capital of the Mathura district. It's around 57.6 kilometers (35.8 miles) north of Agra and 166 kilometers (103 miles) south of Delhi, as well as 14.5 kilometers (9.0 miles) from Vrindavan and 22 kilometers (14 miles) from Govardhan.Mathura was an important economic center in ancient times, as it was situated at the crossroads of vital caravan routes.The Krishna Janmasthan Temple Complex, which is located in Mathura, is believed to be the birthplace of Krishna in Hinduism. It is one of the Sapta Puris, a group of seven Hindu sacred cities. Mathura was the capital of the Surasena empire, which was ruled by Kansa, Krishna's maternal uncle. Dwarkadhish Temple

One of the top places to visit in Mathura, Dwarkadhish temple is famous throughout the world for its intricate architecture and paintings. Located within the perimeter of the holy gate of the city, close to the Ghats of the Yamuna River, the temple and its surroundings are a hub of many interesting activities. Every day, thousands of devotees come here to pay their obedience. A series of exquisite ceiling paintings showing the different aspects of the life of the Lord and the magnificent architectural designs and carvings of Rajasthani architecture makes the complex look even more magnanimous. The black-coloured god inside the temple encourages love! The Dwarkadhish temple is currently operated by Vaishnava sect followers (started by Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya) and is a centre for many interesting activities throughout the year, particularly during the Shravan months when the Lord’s Idol is put inside a Hindola (a type of swing set).

Government Museum Mathura

Previously known as the Curzon Museum of Archaeology, the Government Museum in Mathura is situated at the Dampier Park. The local people simply like to call it the Mathura Museum, and never get tired of acknowledging that it is one of the finest museums in the country housing an enormous collection of ancient relics, sculptures, coins, and paintings. Visit Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple

Plan a visit to this Holy Temple. The temple is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Shri Krishna and it is considered the holiest place in Mathura. Other attractions here are a marble statue of Lord Krishna as well as small shrines of various Gods and Goddesses. To see the place at its best, try to visit it during one of the major festivals such as Diwali or Holi. Celebrations begin during mid-night with the birth of Bhagwan.

Visit Gita Mandir

This famous red sandstone structure is also known as the Birla Mandir, this is a popular attraction thanks to its beautiful structures and heritage. One of the main sights is the 18 chapters of Bhagavad Gita inscribed and illustrated on the pillars of the temple. The red sandstone structure has a lot of intricate carvings and although it is located on the outskirts of Mathura, it is still one of the most visited tourist spots of the city. Here you can also find idols of Lord Krishna, Narayana, Rama, Goddess Lakshmi, and Sita.
